More like William Tecumseh Sherman.

Except I would march through the Capitol.

Not an option. Sherman didn't run.

(And besides, while Sherman may not really have said "the only good Indian" etc, his actions against Indian civilians sure expressed it. Tear up the tracks and burn the fields, transferred to the West. Certainly up there with Trail of Tears.)

But sorry, Mando, in '64 it's either Lincoln or McClellan. Or, if you prefer '60 (before habeus corpus was an issue), you get to pick between ... two-drummer drumroll, please ... Breckenridge, who did indeed later try to march on the Capitol at Fort Stephen; Bell, a slaveholder; or Douglas, who was pro-Dred Scott and also died in '61, so we'd have had a slaveholding president named ... HERSCHEL! Which would definitely beat Millard.

And your vote goes to ... ?

Here's Herschel Vespasian Johnson, our coulda-been 17th president if the soon-to-be-deceased Douglas had beaten Lincoln:

Wait! I have to ask... You knock Lincoln for suspending habeas corpus, but you're a Sherman fan? Sherman practically invented "total war." Any guesses as to how he felt about due process?

Fair enough....point well made.

Any guesses as to how I feel about how deserving our elected officials are wrt to the job they are doing, the state of the country and affording them due process?

Begin the March with two drummers.........wait, that ran its course a few days ago.

Mando,

While we may disagree about Lincoln I think we would completley agree about our elected officials today!
